Sinter-crystallisation in the diopside–albite system Part I. Formation of induced crystallisation porosity
نویسندگان
چکیده
The sinter-crystallisation was investigated in three model glasses (G1, G2 and G3) belonging to the diopside–albite system and forming between 30 and 60% diopside, respectively. The effect of bulk crystallisation on the sintering was studied by the addition of 0.7 wt.% Cr2O3 as nucleating agent to the G2 glass. The degree of sintering was evaluated by the variation of the apparent density while the crystallisation, by the increasing of the absolute density. The structure and morphology of the sintered glass-ceramics was observed by SEM-BSE.

Sinter-crystallization in the diopside–albite system Part II. Kinetics of crystallization and sintering
The formation of intragranular pores, induced by diopside crystallization in diopside–albite glasses, was highlighted in a previous study and here confirmed by SEM observation. The sinter-crystallization kinetics of four glass compositions, labelled G1, G2, G3 and G2-Cr, characterized by the formation of induced crystallisation porosity, PCR, was investigated. The activation energies of crystal...

diopside (CaO·MgO·2SiO2) and wollastonite (CaO·SiO2) glass-ceramics, forming ∼60% crystal phase and ∼40% albite-like Na2O·Al2O3·6SiO2) residual glass were studied. Two other diopside glass-ceramics with higher Na2O and Al2O3 content were also investigated. The phase formation was estimated by DTA, XRD and pycnometry, while the densification process was evaluated by porosity variations, ilatomet...

متن کاملEffect of iron oxide content on the crystallisation of a diopside glass–ceramic glaze
The effect of iron oxide content on the crystallisation of a diopside glass–ceramic glaze was investigated using a glass–ceramic frit in the K2O–ZnO–MgO–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 system and a granite waste glass. Measurements by X-ray diffraction (XRD) combined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDX microanalysis showed that the distribution of Fe ions among different crystalline phases such as f...
متن کاملThe microscopic origin of the extreme glass-forming ability of Albite and B2O3
Understanding the conditions that favour crystallisation and vitrification has been a longstanding scientific endeavour. Here we demonstrate that the extremely high glass-forming ability of unseeded supercooled Na2O·Al2O3·6SiO2 (Albite) and B2O3-known for decades as "crystallisation anomaly"-is caused by insufficient crystal nucleation. The predicted temperatures of the maximum homogeneous nucl...
